I love to design and make costumes! I cannot imagine practicing and performing this dance form without creating costumes. In addition to creating my line of silk veils, and, as time permits, I design costumes. Often, I design a costume and then create 2 or more of a similar design with slight variations. It is something I really enjoy.
Costume Work: I occasionally do costume alteration and/or custom work as time permits. My fee is $30.00 per hour. If you are a dancer, I reccomend learning to do basic alterations/fittings of your costumes for several reasons, which include: it saves you money, your sizes wilchange a bit and go up or down and costumes need adjustment at these times, costumes need to be maintained and repaired occasionally. It is extremely hard to buy off the rack and have it fit perfectly. I can teach you this also for the above rate, or take my costume design classes.
Costume Design Classes: I am beginning a series of costume design and jewelry design classes in Raleigh NC. A great way to learn to design accessories, alter, and fit your costumes. Check the schedule page for upcoming dates and also check my blog on tribe.

audra's first coin costume. These are some of my favorite photos. All photos by sarah skinner of shakemyday.com

This design was created from findings from Cost Less of California. I loved the big medallions with scarabs on them. I antiqued them to make them look old.

Red, Gold, & Pearl Medallion Costume. This costume has a vintage look and feel. I found the medallions in some out of way metal shop in New York. The shop did not make them any more. They had 10 of them. They sat around in my supplies for about 4 years before I finally figured out how I wanted to use them. They did not have the cabochons in the center. I added those to the metal piece. The head piece is amazing. I looked at a historical picture for ideas on how to create it.
